Located in Nilgiri District of Tamil Nadu, 105 km away from Coimbatore city, Ooty prides itself for the highest Nilgiri Peak (Doddabetta)  in the Nilgiri Hills (7,347 m above sea level).

Discovered in 1800, the British Officers of Madras presidency groomed it as their Summer retreat. They laid the railway network and developed Ooty to its present glory.  Travel in a steam train  is a major  tourist attraction of tourists. Other tourist attractions are Summer Festival as well as Tea and Tourism Festival.

Ooty is rightly called 'The Queen of Hill Stations' for its excellent weather, deep forests, lush green slopes and landscape with large tea gardens on both sides of the road.  Best way to explore this small hill station is by trekking through the Nilgiri Hills. Hang gliding facilitates another way to explore Ooty effortlessly.

Places to visit:
Rose Garden : Situated at an altitude of 2200 m in an area of 4 hectares divided into five terraces, this garden displays about 2800 varieties of roses, a largest collection of rose varieties in India.

Nilgiri Hills : This is the highest peak in the Nilgiri Hills (2623 m above sea level) at a distance of 10 Km from Ooty. You can trek to the  peak through woods.

Ooty Lake :  It is an artificial lake built by the then district collector John Sullivan in the year 1825.  It is local picnic spot.  Tourists can enjoy both boating and fishing.  Prior permission from the officials is needed for fishing in the lake.

Government Botanical Garden :   Besides  a few rarest varieties of exotic plants like Lily Pond and Cork Tree, It maintains 20 million year old tree fossil. Don’t miss  monkey-puzzle tree, a tree which monkeys can't climb. 

Deer Park : Just a kilometer from the Ooty Lake, Deer Park is one of the few high altitude wildlife parks in the country. It covers 22 hectares of land and its main attraction is chital and Sambar. The best time to visit Ooty is February and May. During this period, aerosports is also an option for the tourists.

How To Reach Ooty
Air : Coimbatore Airport at Peelamedu is the nearest airport to Ooty. It is nearly 100 km from here. Coimbatore receives flights from all major airports in the country. From the airport, the most convenient way to reach Ooty is by taking a taxi. There are privately run and state transport buses as well plying between the two cities.

Rail : Ooty is well connected to all cities of Tamil nadu. You can reach Ooty from Chennai by taking Nilgiri Express that takes tourist till, Mettupalyam. From there, you can either take a bus or a steam train. Traveling by steam train is the advised way as surroundings on the route is breathtakingly attractive.

Road : The well laid out road network connects Ooty to all the major cities of Tamil Nadu and nearby states. There is regular public and private bus services to and from Ooty. For traveling inside Ooty, local buses, taxis and rickshaws are easily available.
