Britishers developed Ooty as a hill station  to avoid heat of Indian summer. But it soon turned into crowd puller. So they developed an eqally beatiful hill station 19 km. away for themselves. This is Coonoor - the second largest hill station in the Nilgiris once inhabited by Coon and Toda hill tribes. The town spanning 14 km. is divided into upper and lower Coonoor.

Coonoor is a small tea garden town with pleasantly cool throughout the year. Its wild grassy meadows, tea bushes, Sunflowers, Marigolds and Rhododendrons present a picturesque landscape.
There are many hillocks fit for trekking. Bird watching is another tourist attraction.
Tea Coffee festival during the winter and Fruits & Vegetable festival during the month of May are arranged.

Main Places to visit:
 Sim's Park :   Developed in 1874,  it is famous for its fruits trees varieties.  
Lamb's Rock :   It is a rock with beautiful carvings and lies on the way to the dolphine nose.
Dolphine Nose :  A  olphin shaped huge rock 10 km. from Coonoor which it is point to view Catherine Falls below.
Kotagiri : 21 kms from Coonoor, Kotahiri is known Coffee plantations, Elk Falls, Rangaswamy Pillar and Peak and  Kodanand view point.

Other places to visit near Coonoor are Lady Canning's seat, the Pomological Station and the Ralliah Dam. Best time to visit this place between the months of October and March although the weather is pleasant throughout the year.

Tea Coffee festival during the winters and fruits & vegetable festival arranged during the month of May are quite fasinating for the tourists.
